Dhanteras

Dhanteras (धनतेरस, also Dhanatrayodashi) is observed on the thirteenth day (Trayodashi) of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) of Kartik month — the first of the five days of Diwali. The festival has two devotional layers: it commemorates the appearance of Lord Dhanvantari (the divine physician and bearer of the amrita kalash) during the great churning of the cosmic ocean, and it is the traditional day for inviting Goddess Lakshmi into the home through the purchase of gold, silver, copper utensils, and new household items.
