What is a Shakti Peetha?
Shakti Peethasare sacred seats of the Goddess formed where the body parts of Sati fell to earth during Shiva's Tandava. Each peetha enshrines a specific body part and is presided over by a Devi and her Bhairava — together forming the complete Shakti–Shiva dyad at that site.
Unlike a standard temple, a Shakti Peetha is a living seat of energy tied to the physical geography of the subcontinent. Pilgrims travel the full circuit for moksha; even a single peetha visit carries the weight of the entire tradition.
