Significance of Devshayani Ekadashi
Devshayani Ekadashi (देवशयनी एकादशी, also Hari Shayani, Padma Ekadashi, or Ashadhi Ekadashi) is observed on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of Ashadha month. It marks the moment Lord Vishnu — having returned to his cosmic abode at Kshira Sagara (the ocean of milk) — enters his four-month yogic sleep (yoga nidra) on the great serpent Ananta Shesha. From this day until Devuthani Ekadashi (Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, four months later), Vishnu is said to be in repose, and the period is known as Chaturmas.
