Sade Sati is only Saturn in the sign before the natal Moon, the Moon's sign, and the next sign. Dhaiya, in Daanyam's Sade Sati result, is Saturn in the 4th or the 8th from that Moon, and only when Sade Sati is off. The 8th is Ashtama. These are shorter Saturn transits, not a fourth Sade Sati phase and not Saturn Mahadasha.
Definition
Daanyam's Sade Sati result marks Dhaiya when Saturn is four or eight signs on from the natal Moon and Sade Sati itself is off. The 8th-from-Moon case is what readers call Ashtama Shani. Kantaka Shani is a different label in Daanyam's daily transit note: Saturn in the 4th, 7th, or 10th from the Moon. The 4th appears in both notes. The Sade Sati tool does not report Kantaka as a Sade Sati phase. None of these names starts a Vimshottari period.
How it works
Count signs from the natal Moon, not houses from Lagna. Sade Sati is the immediate neighbour signs and the Moon's own sign.
Dhaiya on the Sade Sati result is the 4th or the 8th, and the result says so only when the three Sade Sati signs are not occupied.
A daily note that says Kantaka is using the 4th, 7th, and 10th grouping. Do not paste that label onto a Sade Sati phase. The Sade Sati tool remains the place that dates Sade Sati.
Reference
Names Daanyam already uses. This table does not add a new score.
| Name | What Daanyam counts |
|---|---|
| Sade Sati | Saturn in the 12th, 1st, or 2nd sign from the natal Moon. Rising, Peak, Setting. |
| Dhaiya | Saturn in the 4th or 8th from the natal Moon, when Sade Sati is not active. |
| Ashtama Shani | The 8th-from-Moon case of that shorter transit. Not a separate Sade Sati phase. |
| Kantaka Shani | A daily-note label for Saturn in the 4th, 7th, or 10th from the Moon. Not a Sade Sati phase. |
Worked example
The golden Moon sign is the sign these counts would start from. The fixture does not store Saturn's sign, so this page does not mark Dhaiya, Ashtama, or Kantaka for that birth.

A common confusion
Saturn return is a different idea from a different astrology, and this page does not define it. If the question is Sade Sati, use the three signs from the Moon. If the question is the Vimshottari chapter, use Saturn Mahadasha.
Calculate it
The Sade Sati tool dates Sade Sati. It is not a Kantaka calculator and not a Saturn-return calculator. This guide does not embed a form.
How the numbers are computed
Dhaiya here follows the Sade Sati result: the 4th or 8th from the Moon, and only outside an active Sade Sati phase. The Kantaka label follows the daily transit note and is not folded into that result. Both use Lahiri.
Questions
Is Dhaiya the same as Sade Sati?
No. In Daanyam's Sade Sati result, Dhaiya is Saturn in the 4th or 8th from the natal Moon when Sade Sati is not active. Sade Sati is the 12th, 1st, and 2nd from the Moon.
What is Ashtama Shani?
The shorter transit with Saturn in the 8th sign from the natal Moon. It is not a phase of Sade Sati.
Does the Sade Sati tool report Kantaka?
No. Kantaka in Daanyam's daily transit note means Saturn in the 4th, 7th, or 10th from the Moon. The Sade Sati tool reports Sade Sati phases, not that label.
