According to the Puranas, Akshaya Tritiya is one of the four self-proven auspicious days (Swayam Siddha Muhurtas) in the Hindu calendar — days on which no astrological confirmation is needed before beginning any auspicious work. The Mahabharata records that Yudhishthira received the Akshaya Patra (the inexhaustible vessel) from the Sun god on this very day.
Gau Seva on Akshaya Tritiya is among the most meritorious acts one can perform. The cow — Gaumata — is revered as a divine being carrying the essence of all gods. The Skanda Purana declares that feeding a cow on Akshaya Tritiya is equivalent to performing a hundred yajnas. Offering jaggery, palak, or full bhojan to cows on this day is believed to bring unending prosperity, dissolve past karmas, and protect the donor's lineage for generations.
