What seva is auspicious on Chhath Puja?

Gau Seva on Chhath Puja honours the same elemental devotion the vrat embodies. The cow — like the sun — is a symbol of light, nourishment, and unconditional gift. Offering green fodder or grain to Gaumata during the four Chhath days, especially on Shashthi after the sandhya arghya, carries the merit of the entire vrat. Many traditional families in Bihar continue the practice of distributing the Chhath prasad (thekua, kasar, and seasonal fruits) to cows and to those in need, as a continuation of the puja itself.

Significance of Chhath Puja

Chhath Puja (छठ पूजा) — also called Surya Shashthi or Pratihar — is a four-day festival of austerity dedicated to the Sun god (Surya) and his sister Chhathi Maiya. It is among the most rigorous and emotionally powerful vrats in the Hindu calendar, observed primarily in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, parts of West Bengal and Odisha, and across the Bihari and Bhojpuri diaspora — particularly in the Madhesh region of Nepal and in Indian communities in Mauritius, Trinidad, Fiji, and South Africa.
