Significance of Bhai Dooj
Bhai Dooj (भाई दूज, also Yama Dwitiya, Bhai Tika in Nepal, Bhau Beej in Maharashtra, Bhratri Dwitiya in Bengal) is observed on the second day (Dwitiya) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of Kartik month — the fifth and final day of the Diwali festival. The day is dedicated to the bond between sister and brother, with the central legend drawn from the meeting of Yama (the lord of death) and his sister Yamuna (the river goddess).
