The vrat is observed by fasting, worshipping Vishnu, and in many regions performing puja near an amla tree with water, flowers, lamps, and circumambulation. The katha speaks of kings and devotees receiving prosperity and protection through reverence to Vishnu and the amalaki, reminding devotees that trees, food, and health are also forms of divine grace.
Gau Seva on Amalaki Ekadashi extends the same healing principle to Gaumata. Offering green fodder, fruit, or full bhojan to cows honours Vishnu as the sustainer of life and supports the living source of nourishment. The seva is especially fitting for prayers of health, family well-being, and long life.
