A rashi is one of the twelve sidereal signs in Vedic astrology. Daanyam names them in Sanskrit and gives the Western sign name only as a translation. The Vedic Sun sign is the rashi of the Sun. The Vedic Moon sign is the rashi of the Moon. Lagna is the rashi on the eastern horizon. They are three placements, not one horoscope.
Definition
The sidereal ecliptic is divided into twelve rashis of 30° each. Each rashi has a lord, the graha that rules it. A planet in a rashi is not the same fact as that rashi on a house. The Moon's rashi is Chandra rashi. The Sun's rashi is the sidereal Sun sign. Daily rashifal is a different product and is not this table.
How it works
Daanyam places the Sun, Moon, and other grahas in sidereal rashis with the Lahiri ayanamsa for the birth date. A tropical app can name the previous or next sign. The sidereal page explains that gap.
The lord of a rashi is a fixed property of the sign. It is not the planet that happens to be sitting in it. Mars rules Mesha and Vrishchika. Venus rules Vrishabha and Tula. The table below is that lord list.
Your Vedic Sun sign is only the Sun's rashi. It does not replace the Moon sign, and it does not replace Lagna. Sun, Moon, and Rising returns all three.
Reference

Worked example
The Lagna and Moon sign below are the golden rashis for this one birth. The Sun's rashi is not stored on that golden row, so this page does not invent it. The calculator returns the sidereal Sun with the other two.
| Birth | Male, born 12 Aug 1995, 14:30 IST, Delhi |
|---|---|
| Date | 1995-08-12 |
| Time | 14:30 |
| Timezone | Asia/Kolkata |
| Lagna | Vrishchika (sidereal Scorpio) |
| Moon sign | Kumbha (sidereal Aquarius) |
| Moon nakshatra | Shatabhisha |
| Birth Mahadasha lord | Rahu |
| Lahiri ayanamsa | 23.798597° |
A common confusion
A rashi is not a nakshatra, and it is not a daily horoscope. There are twelve rashis and twenty-seven nakshatras. The Moon sign page is Chandra rashi. This page is the list of signs.
Calculate it
Sun, Moon, and Rising returns the sidereal Sun, Moon, and Lagna. The Vedic birth chart page opens the free explainer. Neither page is a daily rashifal.
How the numbers are computed
Sign boundaries follow the Lahiri sidereal zodiac on the method page. The lord column is the classical rashi-lord list Daanyam already uses.
Questions
What is a rashi?
A rashi is one of the twelve sidereal signs. Daanyam uses the Sanskrit name and treats the Western sign name as a translation, not as a tropical longitude.
What is my Vedic Sun sign?
It is the sidereal rashi of the Sun at birth, calculated with the Lahiri ayanamsa. It can differ from the tropical Sun sign. Sun, Moon, and Rising returns it. This table does not.
Is a rashi the same as a Moon sign?
The Moon sign is one rashi: the sign that holds the Moon. Lagna is another rashi, the one on the horizon. The Sun has its own. A person has all three, not a single rashi that replaces the others.
