A Muhūrta is an auspicious window of time selected using Vedic astrology — combining Tithi, Nakṣatra, Vāra (weekday), Yoga, and Karaṇa, plus the Lagna at the moment of the act — to begin something important on a sacred footing. Daanyam's free Muhūrta calculator surfaces the best windows for marriage (vivāha), house-warming (gṛha praveśa), vehicle purchase (vāhana), child's first haircut (mundan), business launches, and travel, computed for your timezone anywhere in the world.

What Is a Muhurat?
The literal meaning of *muhūrta* is a unit of time, roughly 48 minutes — one-thirtieth of a day. In practice, it refers to a chosen auspicious window for an important beginning. The Vedic logic is simple: every moment carries a particular planetary signature, and starting an action when that signature supports its nature gives the act a stronger foundation. A wedding begun in an Abhijit Muhūrta with a benefic Lagna and an auspicious Nakṣatra carries different momentum than one started in Rāhu Kāla.
Muhurat Categories Daanyam Covers
- Vivāha Muhūrta — wedding date selection. The most consulted category. Daanyam's Vivāha Muhūrta hub gathers the top auspicious wedding dates for the current season, with Tithi, Nakṣatra, Vāra, and Abhijit windows for each.
- Gṛha Praveśa Muhūrta — house-warming. The auspicious time to first enter a new home, with attention to the Lagna lord, Moon's position, and the avoidance of Bhadrā and certain Tithis.
- Vāhana Muhūrta — vehicle purchase. Best days and time-of-day to bring home a new car or two-wheeler.
- Mundan Muhūrta — a child's first haircut ceremony, usually in the first or third year, requiring careful Nakṣatra and Tithi selection.
- Business launch Muhūrta — opening a shop, signing an MoU, launching a product, registering a company. The Lagna at the moment of the act matters most here.
- Travel and Yātrā Muhūrta — auspicious direction and time for pilgrimages and significant journeys.
Why Timezone Matters — Especially for Diaspora
Most Indian Muhūrta tools compute everything in IST (Asia/Kolkata) by default. If you live in New Jersey, London, Toronto, Singapore, or Dubai, an IST-only Muhūrta can be off by hours — sometimes pushing an "auspicious" window into the middle of the night in your local time, or landing on a different date entirely once timezone offset is applied.
Daanyam computes Muhūrta windows in your timezone. We use your device's timezone (or one you select) and resolve sunrise, sunset, Tithi changeover, and Nakṣatra changeover at your location — not in Delhi. For NRI weddings, gṛha praveśa in a new home abroad, and overseas business openings, this is the difference between a Muhūrta that actually works and one that exists only on paper.
Beyond that, Daanyam can personalise the ranking using your birth chart — pulling the Vimśottarī Daśā state and the Moon's position in your natal chart to push windows that align with your current planetary period toward the top.
